I
need to be honest about Healing Haven Recovery House. I just got back a
week ago and I am disgusted. I posted this on a couple of facebook groups and many people jumped up to say this was their experience too, but then friends of hers came out and straight attacked me and said I made it all up. I relied very heavily on the reviews on here when I planned my surgeries. I am a two time vet (once Tijuana, once Mexico) and this is my only negative experience. I have no reason to lie and absolutely nothing to gain. Here is my
experience: First off, you are stuck in a chair without the
option of sleeping in a bed. You're sharing a room with five other girls
and all your stuff is just out in the open. They want the light on?
Lights on. They wanna skype at 2am? Guess you're gonna hear that. She has bedrooms, but they're upstairs!!!! You can't walk up all those stairs right after surgery. So you're paying for a bed that you don't get. Eventually she so overbooked that I had to go upstairs before I was ready and doing that made my drainage change from a healthy clear yellow back to a dark red. It really negatively impacted my healing.
Oh and all these pictures she posts of food? [RS bleep]. She made grilled
chicken one day and then kept reheating it with beans and rice and
plantains. Every meal. The other girls there with me started cooking
because no one wanted anymore old grilled chicken and rice. We even
ordered Dominos one night! Jules is trying to make the most
money possible. She cheats you on the exchange rate by paying for your
meds in pesos and then calculating it to dollars at 40 pesos per dollar.
But if you owe her a penny and try to pay in pesos she's charging YOU
45 pesos/dollar. I watched her do this when a girl got money sent through Western Union but it was sent in pesos. Jules made me pay at a rate of 45, but later when we had to pay her dollars for our meds she did the rate at 40. She pays the massage therapists $8/massage but
tells us that they charge her $30. Oh and her employees who work 70
hours a week? They get $200/month TOTAL. They hate her. They literally
say that she isn't human and has no heart. I speak Spanish and they were
terrified of talking to me because they didn't want Jules to find out.
Oh and Jules keeps their tips. She orders her employees to turn in all
tips and she does shady [RS bleep] to find out if we tipped and the women
pocketed it. She will seriously charge you for every single glove, gauze pad, everything. Jules charged one girl $40 for some maxi pads while
I was there and another girl $10 for a bottle of rubbing alcohol. Then
she offered to take in the girls fajas saying they were too big and then
she charged them after the fact. Oh, and the fajas were all
ridiculously too small and they ended up having little holes in them
from tearing out the stitches. Oh and get this, she didn't get
her ass or of bed on time to get my to my appointment so I missed it.
She was two hours late. My surgeon was in surgery. Then she tried to
charge me for transportation!!!!!!!!! I was so disgusted being there but she already had my money. I wasn't the only one who felt like that. Some of the other girls defended her because she's a black woman just trying to make a buck, but no, you don't have to exploit your employees and nickle and dime all your clients. Also, I never saw a nurse the whole time I was there. None of her help speaks English, not that I care because I speak Spanish, but I was always translating for the girls in the house and if I wasn't there they were stuck playing charades. Another downside to having maids and not nurses is that they do very unsterile things. I didn't let them touch my drain. One girl had her drain tugged on and one of the employees touched it with her bare hand and tried to put it back in. I love the ladies who for that awful woman, but they are not trained for what they're trying to do. I included a photo of the room where all the girls and all their stuff stay so you can all see what I'm talking about. This women is terrible. Do not, do not go there. I just got back and I have nothing to gain from warning you. I am sure I will get jumped on for this post, but honest reviews are important and I relied on them heavily when planning my trips.
