I had a laser resurfacing over 15 years ago that left me with both skeletal eyes (extremely hollow upper and lower lids) and rounded eyes. Also, my eyes do not close when I sleep. So, about 1.5 years ago, I had a "modified" canthoplasty ( modified...meaning she couldn't complete the surgery due to bleeding) combined with a mid-face (Dr. said that this would help support lower lid) along with a "spacer"or graft to lengthen the canthus. This surgery left me in a much worse condition. (Understand, I had this surgery performed by an oculoplastic surgeon specialized in reconstructive surgery of eyelids. ) The hollowness under lower eyelids is even more hollow, I now have slight ectropion, retraction ( white of eye shows), broken veins, wrinkling, worse dry eyes and still cannot close my eyes. The spacer/graft inserted underneath the lower lids was made from porcine (pig) and caused a chronic inflammatory condition. I looked like I had the worse case of contact dermatitis ever witnessed. I was sent to numerous doctors and no one found anything wrong with my immune system. My surgeon said it had to be the TarSys (porcine spacer material). So, I recently consulted with another oculoplastic surgeon...suppose to be great...and he has proposed doing a canthoplasty with another spacer (he seems to think the previous spacer has reabsorbed) using EnduraGen. Mind you now, I told him that I had experienced a horrible inflammatory response ( lasting over7 months) from use of porcine material. When I got home I researched EnduraGen and found it, too, is made from porcine. Do doctors even LISTEN?Question: has anyone on this forum ever had a canthoplasty with hard palate (skin taken from roof of mouth)? And, if so, what were your results? And, can you IM me and tell me your doctor's name? I had thought I would try fillers underneath eyes to support lower lids but now after reading some of the experiences, I see this can present bacteria into the body causing swelling, etc. Please, someone, direct me.
