I came across some information about my chosen surgeon which has left me feeling worried and quite conflicted. I have already paid the desposit of £500, and whilst nervous, I was ready to face the procedure head on - my date being 5 weeks away. Last night something prompted me to check if they were board-certified (not such a thing in the UK, but we have our own version) - and I found that they do not seem to be registered as a surgeon at all. They are registered as a GP (doctor) on the GMC website, but not a specialist, which understand to be a requirement for a practising surgeon.
I called BAAPS (the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), and explained my dillema, and whilst they couldn't express an opinion on behalf of the organisation, they did express concern and referred me to their list of registered surgeons. I am now feeling quite lost and honestly a bit freaked out. I don't understand how this is even possible, as they are listed as a surgeon on multiple clinic websites - is this not misinformation? I don't know if I'm entitled to my deposit back in light of this, so I'm feeling quite stressed and lost as to what to do. I'm feeling pressure to go ahead because of what I've already paid, and whilst I know that it unwise, I am definitely tempted to go into denial mode - it pains me to think of £500 going down the drain, espeically since I've also spent £350 consulting with another surgeon. So it would be in total £850 for absolutely nothing!
I'm feeling very stuck, so if anyone has an opinion on this I would be grateful to hear it. Could there be any argument for going ahead with the surgery at this point, or is it just asking for trouble? I can't find any bad reviews about the surgeon, though the clinic itself is potentially questionable. I had put this to one side because I liked the look of the surgeon, but now I don't even know if they can be called a surgeon!
