Derma Rolling hurts! What can I do?

Okay, so I decided to try derma rolling to help reduce some fine lines around mouth and some deep lines on forehead that I've had since I was a teenager. I bought a 1.0mm roller and started about a week ago. Based on all the reviews and testimonies I'd read about derma rollers, I did not expect the rolling process to hurt. But it did! I have thin, pale skin that is somewhat translucent and very sensitive, and I also have a very low pain tolerance. I've been rolling anyway, but not pressing hard enough to draw blood because it's far too painful before I get to that point, so I'm not sure if it's going to be effective. My face does get rather red, so I am applying SOME pressure, but if you're not drawing blood, is it even penetrating far enough to stimulate collagen production?I am thinking about getting a numbing cream, but I'm worried that any numbing cream might have chemical components in it that won't be very good for my skin. Wouldn't applying the cream, then rolling your skin, just push the numbing agent down into your skin and potentially  damage it further?Does anyone have any advice on how a person with sensitive skin can use derma rolling to their benefit? And please keep in mind, I'm a broke college student who can't afford to go to a dermatologist or any other professional skin-care consultant. Hence the reason I'm trying to find an affordable skin care option. Thank you in advance.
