Have a few acne scars and the dermatologist I saw said with Dermapen I could see approximately 60% improvement between 3-6 sessions. I did a lot of research and the reviews/studies showed positive experiences. My first two sessions and the down time were fine. In my third session I told the dermatologist that I hadn’t noticed any results. Without informing me the Doctor decided to go aggressively with a 3 mm needle. Please note I was pretty relaxed as my first 2 sessions were fine plus I also had numbing cream. What followed was my skin being extended red, swollen and with raw oozy patches. Over the next couple of days scabs formed and these started falling. However nearly 3 weeks since the procedure, I now have hyperpigmentation, I can see the microneedling holes and my face is extremely sensitive to sunlight. I also have had this strange sensation on my face, especially around my cheekbone area which feels prickly and really sensitive.
I feel I am in post traumatic stress and shock. The Doctor has said all of it will go, but it may take some weeks. However I feel my face shouldn’t be in the state it is in in the first place and it’s a complete shock. The Doctor has prescribed hydroquinone for my hyperpigmentation which I am a little worried to use for many reasons.
Currently just using aloe vera gel that is soothing to the skin sensation and hyraulonic acid. And sunscreen all the time. Any advice re hydroquinone on darker skin tone? Will my symptoms and hyperpigmentation really go? If so how long can I expect it to take realistically. Anyone else had a similar experience that they can share with me?
