I've had a porcelain crown with metal base (free NHS treatment in the UK) for over 25 years. The margin was becoming more obvious and the tooth protruded. So I decided that I'd get it replaced privately with an emax. The dentist removed the old crown, and when looking at the "stub" underneath, it would appear that over the years, because the old crown was very thick (profile) my bite had, in effect, pushed what remained of the tooth forward. The dentist told me this could be made to look better by adjusting the profile of the new crown. My request was that the new crown had no margin, looked better on photos (less glaring/white) and looked more natural. He confirmed this could be done. Off I go to the dental lab where they took photos, detailed drawings and my requests. I additionally said that I wanted to retain my gap (I have a modest gap between the front teeth - it's a family thing!) 2 weeks later and I go to have the crown fitted - requesting a look before cementing. I was so glad I did - It was awful! It completely filled the gap so was overwide and a little overlong - it looked like a piece of chewing gum! Seeing how upset I was the dentist started having a go a grinding it down, but after about 20 minutes gave up & said he'd return it to the dental lab - it would probably need grinding down and then re-enamelling(?). Another week and I re-visit the dentist and although the tooth was much better (much to my relief - I was on my way to an important function later that day and didn't want to go with my yellowing temporary tooth) it still wasn't great. But feeling like I'd not much choice, it was cemented in. The dentist told me I'd got a 3 month guarantee, so if I wasn't happy I could go back and see what can be done.So now, I don't know what to do. My problem is1. It's still slightly too wide and long - more apparent on photos with a "natural" smile - and my modest gap is now even more modest!2. The "stub" of my old tooth shows through the emax tooth, making it look stained slightly grey.3. There is a rough edge on the inside of the tooth (where my gap should be/is)4. When I bite, I catch the new emax, scraping it on my bottom teeth5. The tooth throbs - not particularly painful, but lets me know it's there!6. I now have a slight speech impediment and slurring and spitting slightly :(I've added some before/after photos (not great, sorry!) and if I can get opinions, I'd be very grateful! I realise that it's probably the most difficult thing to match the front teeth, but is this really the best I can expect? Thanks in advance!
