Hello - I've been having massetter botox for the last 15 years - and the only side effects I've ever experienced are (on occasion) 'wings' appearing - as the botox settles and different muscles are affected and the lower muscles pop out when clenching - this is usually resolved with a small top up or just a bit of time. OR very mild 'spot' bruising (rare), or asymmetry (this has only happened since being in France and dealing with very bad injectors).
But I have recently had a botox massetter injection - 5 months after the last treatment - and immediately after the procedure a large hematoma (raised 'duck egg' swelling and pain) appeared on one side of my face over the injection site. I alerted the doctor who had already left the room, and he advised to put a lot of pressure on it to 'push' it down and to hold a piece of gauze with cooling astringent arnica gel on it for 5 min in his waiting room. Then I was free to go.
He didn't seem concerned (it's France, the bedside manner here is non-existant at the best of times)
Since then I assume it's going to bruise likely quite badly and although the 'duck egg' swelling has gone, that side of my face is swollen and puffy. It's also painful and painful to open my mouth (and my range of movement in my jaw is less - perhaps only due to the swelling at the moment.
Does anyone have an experience with this and with swelling / bad bruising? Are there any complications I should look out for? It's unpleasant and sore.. But I guess not much I can do!
Thank you!
