Hi all, I have had melisma on my upper lip & between my brows for about three years now. I'm 44, non smoker, and I avoid the sun. I think my melasma was caused by waxing. I also took accutane for two years (for acne on my back, not my face). The accurate cleared my back, but destroyed my hair (warning to all). I never waxed while on accutane. I have not waxed since I discovered to melasma. I am seeking treatments, but I'm terrified they'll make it worse! Some days it's so obvious, and others it's not. I am currently using hydroquonine (sp?) and see no results. I'm not sure what to try next. I haven't been to the dermatologist yet as I know treatment won't be covered by insurance and us incredibly pricy. I don't trust any of the over-the-counter treatments because I've tried so many and wasted so much money already. What can I expect to pay at a derm & is it worth it? Anyone have their melasma get worse from treatments?
