I am a 34 year old with severe tuberous breasts/breast hypoplasia. This is something that I have put off for way too long as I didn't have the information that I have now.
My entire life it has been the center of jokes. I cannot find bras that fit or flatter me. Wearing a bathing suit is a nightmare because I cannot fill out the top and I feel incredibly insecure. The tissue behind my aerola is thick and feels like a lump when touching or squeezing. This also causes me pain and discomfort around my cycle each month.
Last year, I had a consultation with a renowned plastic surgeon here in Los Angeles who quoted me around 40k for a breast augmentation to fix and reshape my breasts. The proposal included a Circmareolar Lift , Fat Grafting to the Breasts, Liposuction Fees to Harvest Fat and Lab tests.
I have spent thousands of dollars out of pocket in therapy and am now navigating insurances in California who might help me cover a breast augmentation.
I've recently read that as of July 1, 2024 in California, certain health insurance plans will cover certain things around breast augmentations, but I am having trouble finding more information.
Has anyone had success navigating this procedure through an insurance company? I would even bite if they would "partially" help me cover it. If anyone has any relateable information to share, I would truly appreciate it as I really want to feel more confident in my own skin.
