I was told that pain after the implant surgery should disappear
withing 10-14 days. It' is 2 weeks right now and the pain goes
nowhere. I am NOT sure that the pain originates from the implant. I
just can't tell which tooth causes this pain. It comes somewhere from the area of 4 teeth (2 implants and 2 molars next to them).
There is a tooth that was root canalled 4 weeks ago also. It is the next tooth to the incisor. I believe it's tooth #28. This tooth has a filling but it is not completed (not completely restored) yet because a crown will go on top of it. This tooth ached for a week after the root canal was done. The pain was rather strong when chewing or tapping on it, or even pressing it with my tongue. Then the pain subsided after a week or so.
The tooth next to it, #29, was "restored". It had a filling that was replaced. This tooth is what I suspect MIGHT be the problem, but I'm not sure. If I tap it gently with my nail, it hurts a bit, but if I drink anything cold or rinse my mouth, I sense somewhat sharp pain that disappears quickly. When I tap on the tooth #28, it is a bit sensitive too but not as much as #29 is. I tried to place a small piece of ice on either tooth for 20 seconds. #28 slightly ached and #29 aches significantly more.
Here is what it feels like:
During the day I barely feel anything unless I drink something cold or even at room temperature. I feel a light pulsation in the general area where the implants were installed. But I'm not sure if it is in tooth #28 or 29 or in one of the implants. I'm unable to tell because I'm afraid to tap on the implants - I don't want to do anything wrong to them.
The
pain gets worse in the evening, around 10 or 11 pm. It is bearable some
evenings but most evenings I have to take ibuprofen, which helps
nicely. I can sleep through the night without pain and in the morning I
barely feel the pain. It is still there, slightly throbbing and
radiating/pulsating but I don't need to take any pills. I've been able to decrease the ibuprofen dosage to half a pill (Advil) and it helps very quickly.
Another
thing. When my surgeon was drilling the bone before installing one of
the implants, I felt a very sharp surge/pain, as if I was hit with
electricity. I even threw my arms up in the air, it was that sudden and
sharp. The surgeon had to add more anesthesia, which helped and he then
could drill further without any problems. I don't know if this is
important, just wanted to mention it.
I don't know if I should go
to the dentist with this. I did my implants in Europe but I live in
Florida. I just moved to Florida from another state and don't have a
dentist here yet. I would have to find one but I just wanted to see if
anyone here has any thoughts about my situation.
Thank you in advance!
P.S. I'm attaching the scan of my x-ray.
