Over the past 3-4 years, I have developed a severe temporalis hypertrophy on my left side. In the last 6 months or so, I've noticed a smaller one coming in on the right side. The temporalis hypertrophy was confirmed by ultrasound in 2023.
The left side is now noticable even when my face is in a normal resting position. It is extremely. noticable if I clench, open my mouth, chew, and even if I smile too wide.
I don't have migraines/headaches, I don't have TMJ and I'm not aware of grinding my teeth or clenching. Perhaps this is something that I do in my sleep but I had my dentist assess and he didn't see any concerns with my bite etc. The concern is purely aesthetic.
I live in the Greater Toronto Area (Ontario). Based on my research online, I understand botox would be the initial treatment suggestion. I haven't been able to find an injector that has dealt with this situation before, although most have said they are familiar with the temple area and have treated for migraines etc.
On July 15, I received 25 units of Dysport in my left temple and 10 units of Dysport in my right temple. I also received 15 units in each masseter. The temple botox did not have any effect whatsoever.
On July 29, I received another 35 units of Dysport in my left temple and another 10-15 in my right temple. Again, there has been no change whatsoever. On the contrary, I feel like the temporalis hypertrophy has become even more noticeable when my face is in its normal resting state and is being noticed by friends who have not commented on it, or even noticed it, previously. None of the injection sites were into my hairline area and I'm wondering if the injection sites were not appropriate.
I have spent $900 dollars now trying to treat this temporalis with no success. I am really hoping to find an injector, ideally in the GTA area, who has specifically treated hypertrophy successfully in the past. Alternatively, I am really hoping to find a doctor who is familiar with this issue and can help map out where the injection sites should be placed.
This deformity is really affecting my self-confidence and I am desperate to get it resolved. I can see it in almost every picture and feel self-conscious about it all the time. Would really appreciate your help and any insight you might have.
