I lost over 30lbs and I felt my face looked gaunt from the weight lost so I decided to try a small bit of filler to see how it looked as a trial for my wedding in 2016 (now postponed because of the daily pain I am suffering until 2017). I have Been diagnosed with Painful Post Traumatic Trigeminal Neuropathy (PPTTN) nerve damage, on the left side of my face from Juvederm Voluma dermal filler exactly 7 months ago (.5cc only and a blunt cannula was used). Nerve damage isn't listed as a side effect for filler. The doctor struggled on my left cheek and "overshot the plane". I hylased the filler but it made no difference. The pain is constantly there, aching, stabbing, tingling, throbbing, burning, electric waterfall feelings and skin crawling feelings. Feels like I have a splinter in my cheek. My skin suffers autonomic changes such as redness and swells also when the pain is bad. I can only describe what I am going through as torturous. The medication I am taking (1200mg daily of Neurontin) doesn't help the pain and the injury is notoriously difficult to treat, I just have to hope and pray it heals. I went to a reputable clinic and the procedure was done by an experienced doctor who told me a few weeks after the procedure that the pain I was experiencing was a result of a "psychological problem called dysmorphic or somatization disorder". She said she was terminating her duty of care as I needed psychological help! The doctor never assessed me for nerve damage, even though I did voice my concerns that it could be nerve damage from some of the doctors advice on this website. It's appalling and ethically wrong a doctor can say this to a patient without proper medical examinations first. One of my now treating doctors said it was typical of a professional in the aesthetics industry to blame any wrong doing on anything else to cover their ass. I really hope I recover, I have learned the hard way. I will never compromise my health again, your health is your wealth!! Also please be aware that when issues arise from fillers there is very little sympathy from GPs and other medical professionals, after all it's a procedure done out of vanity. Plus not only will you not get your money back when something goes wrong, it could cost £1000's to try and put right. PS. Please report any issues you have to Allergan and the FDA. The more they know about these side effects the more educated they will become and hopefully it will save people having to go through what I am going through right now :(
