For some, getting a tattoo is an exciting event. For others, it can bring on a world of regret. Here are some of the top reasons RealSelfers are removing their tattoos.
1. Unhappy with the outcome: Some people spend months, even years planning out the perfect tattoo. But what if after all that planning you are not happy with the outcome? This is a pretty common issue which often leads to the removal of a tattoo. RealFriend kahelelani spent “an extensive amount of time” to plan her addition to her cultural hand tattoo, only to have her dream turn into her biggest nightmare!

“The freehand drawing did not execute the same as intended, the placement isn't right, the colour isn't right. As the trusted artist was bandaging up my hand all I could think was "well this will have to be lasered off". Kahelelani is not alone, regretfulfawn desired to have a lotus tattoo placed on her back for years. “I have been researching artists for a long time as well. I had gone to a tattoo convention and chose an artist with an absolutely beautiful portfolio.” Unfortunately after all that planning she was unhappy with the final result, “I ended up hating it AS SOON as it was finished. The line work and shading is shaky and is not up to my standards and the tattoo isn't even the color scheme I asked for-- I had wanted the lotus to be blue and purple. This tattoo makes me feel like I am wearing a sticker that I could have drawn myself.” [ Read more]
Dp123456780 understands “exactly how it feels to plan something and then get rejected by the way it looks on your body. I did the same thing with my tattoo which I planned for couple of months, but a poor choice of artist and cheapening of positioning according to artist recommendations have made the regret feelings rise up just a few days after getting inked.” You can check out his review here.

2. Location Location Location: A tattoo can be a big shock to the eye! Sometimes where you envisioned your tattoo may not have been the best place after all.
RealSelfer mlrandal tells us that “The tattoo itself is very well done and looks great, but I can't help but think I made a HUGE mistake with the size and location.” See more of her story here.
Aeshay09 decided to get a tattoo of her dogs paw print, only to regret the placement.

She openly shares with us that “after I got it I hated it. That night I just curled up in a ball and cried. I had trouble eating and sleeping.” You can follow her journey here.
3. Impulsive decision: Let's face it, we all do things without thinking them through completely, it's called life. In darknebula's case her "mistake" is skin deep. She explains " I feel like I made a very rash decision and it doesn't fit me". She further tells us in her review that "I'm just not sure I got the tattoo for all the right reasons."

Rlrobb is a student working hard to pay for her removal. "I was having a very rough time a while back and impulsively decided to get a tattoo thinking it would make me happier - however it did the opposite!" [Read more]

4. Instant regret: This is a very popular reaction to a new tattoo and it can be emotionally hard to deal with. Ari3 explains “the moment I stood up from the chair and the tat was done it became the biggest regret of my life.” After having 15 laser treatments Ari3 continues removal of a small wrist tattoo but is not happy with results, "I still have 2 more Tx left and after that I don't think I am going to continue. By then I have completed over 15 Tx (taking into account that my first sessions with another laser, where double passes)." [Read more]
