I "finished" my last set of aligners at Halloween, but my dentist said I need to continue wearing them (the exact same pair, no replacements) for another 4-5 months to allow my bones to "settle" and not move back. I don't necessarily doubt that this can happen, but I don't see anyone else who has had to wear their last trays all day after treatment for such a long period of time. I don't have proper retainers yet, but can I go ahead and stop wearing my trays during the day? They are VERY yellow by this point and not in good shape. I thought the point of the retainer was to move teeth back after shifting during the day, so why would I need to keep wearing the trays?
