Hi! I have severe bone loss and gum recession around #15, and recently the tooth was infected. Dentists agree that it cannot be saved, and therefore I have been on Amoxicillin since Friday, and will need to get it extracted. I found a doctor specializing in implants, and after doing a CT scan, she said that I have only 5mm bone left, and will need a sinus lift. She also recommended doing an extraction, sinus lift, and same-day implant all in one session.
At first I was surprised and concerned, given the infection, but she said that the infection can be scraped away, and it will be fine, so I went ahead and made an appointment for tomorrow at 3:30pm PST. When I asked her about the length of the post, she also doesn't seem to be concerned about whether we used a 8mm, 10mm, 11mm, or 12mm, nor how much bone graft should be put in above the post between it and the sinus (1mm, 2mm, etc.) and left the decision up to me. As this is different from the suggestion of my original surgeon, I am hoping to get some additional opinions:
1) Is a same-day implant a good idea?
2) Is the sinus lift definitely needed?
3) Is the infection really not a concern?
4) What is best length of post to choose (8mm, 10mm, 11mm, or 12mm)? And does it matter how much graft bone surrounds the post?
If anyone can give these a stab, I would really appreciate it!
