It took me nearly two years of researching to finally build up the confidence that microblading could help with my over-plucked brows. I read article after article, watched countless YouTube videos and ultimately decided to go forward with treatment after a former colleague got her’s done and I was able to hear first hand experience.
From there I looked at top technicians in the Los Angeles area. Most of the articles I read suggested reviewing photographs of their work and to read reviews for decision making, and that you really need someone with an artistic eye to make the right shape.
After finding a person I felt comfortable with I booked the appointment and was so excited! However, none of the research I saw online provided information about long-term risks and the articles about pros/cons guaranteed me there were none.
My initial appointment was July 2017, after which I was very happy with the results. I actually really loved how the lines were a little sparse and liked the shape. Then came my touchups in Sept 2017, this is what has happened to me since:
1) in the weeks following the touchups a large amount of eyebrow hairs fell out, I did some research and was assured from Doctors on forums like Real Self that this is normal and the hair would grow back over time (some suggested waiting 6 months)
2) some of the pigment became blotchy and too much ink deposited at once which lead to a blob of color rather than strokes, particularly close to a translucent mole in my eyebrow hairline which left an unattractive look
3) the shape changed and was no longer natural looking like after the first session, plus the color was far too dark
4) per doctor advice I waited six months to see if the hairs would grow back, and unfortunately they have not
5) because the treatment is a relatively new trend, it seems there are not many resources about long-term risks (or they are deliberately being kept secret)
Has anyone else experienced permanent hair loss from their treatment? Or any other kind of problems associated with treatment? I read a couple bits of advice from cosmetic doctor’s who say that indeed there are permanent side effects and hair loss is one of them, generally because of trauma or root damage.
Please let me know if I am not alone in this.
