Let's Get to the Bottom of This — Does Penis Size Really Matter?

There's no question that some men have become preoccupied with the size of their penises, and most men seem to think that size is all that matters. Of course, most women know this simply isn't true, but that doesn't mean size doesn't play a part at all. How much does penis size really matter? Let's put this age-old question to rest.

Check this out, according to AskMen.com,'85% of women are satisfied with their partner's penile size, but only 55% of men are satisfied.' While discussing the topic at length (pun intended), an AskMen panel of women agreed that while size does matter, it's 'not as much as guys think.' In fact, they all seemed to agree that personal connection and knowing what to do in the bedroom matter more than penis size ever does.

And science backs this up. In a 2013 survey, women rated men with larger penises to be more attractive... but only to a certain point. In the study, the female attraction started to diminish when they viewed a man with a flaccid penis larger than about 7.6 centimeters (roughly 3 inches). What played the biggest role in desirability was the proportion of the penis to the body, but it seems even that can be outweighed by a number of other factors.

'The person attached to the penis makes a difference,' says ASAPScience. 'Most all studies show that confidence, an enjoyable personality, and attraction are the best predictors of sexual satisfaction.'

Now, that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of women who have difficulty reaching orgasm, but as RealSelf user Brandi says, it might not be the fault of the men. As we know, a penis is completely unnecessary for clitoral stimulation. And while some women have been found to have more frequent vaginal orgasms with a longer penis, the 'coveted' G-spot is located only 1/3 of the way inside the vagina.

'I hate it when I hear these women talk like they need this BIG penis,' Brandi says. 'Like it needs to be 10' long and as wide around as a water bottle or something. That's just crazy! A woman must know her own body. When she is with someone, communication is key!'

Where a larger penis may be beneficial is in the realm of confidence. 'I do know some guys who aren't the hottest or the coolest, but they are very well-endowed,' reveals one of the women on the AskMen panel. 'They have this confidence about them that makes them cooler and more attractive. [...] We say it over and over and over again: It's all about confidence. If you can pin me up on a wall, then it doesn't matter how big your junk is.'

And we certainly hope men have a lot more than penis size to be confidence about.
