Banana Roll (def): formerly known as the thuttocks, it is the bulge of fat underneath the bum at the top of the thigh that resembles a horizontal banana.

The quest for the perfect booty has led the way for a new craze in the body sculpting world — removing the dreaded banana roll. This is a particularly difficult area to get rid of with diet and exercise, and the amount of women choosing to have it removed surgically is on the rise.

RealSelf was recently linked in an article in StyleList Canada, an fashion and beauty website. While they claim everyone is after the Kardashian/Beyonce look, a look at real women talking about their derrière on RealSelf tells a slightly different story. In reality, users are split down the middle as far as wanting a large cake booty or wanting a small firm booty. No matter the size they're going for, however, they can all agree on one thing: The banana roll has got to go.

But it's not as simple as it seems. Baltimore plastic surgeon Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez warns that just having liposuction may not solve the problem and that fat injections to the buttocks may also be needed (otherwise known as a Brazilian butt lift), which is more invasive and costly. Merely having banana roll liposuction may result in a saggy looking bum, so it's smart to undergo several doctor consultations and ask about the risks of a saggy booty and how to prevent it. Always research your potential doctors and check their board certifications. Banana roll liposuction requires extra care and skill to ensure good results.

Here are some quick tips when looking for a banana roll liposuction doctor:
  • Use our Find A Doctor feature. All RealSelf doctors are board certified plastic surgeons.
  • Read the reviews of the doctors you like, reach out and comment on the reviews, and learn what you can from other Community Members.
  • Schedule multiple consultations with different doctors and don't be afraid to ask plenty of questions until you are satisfied with their answers.
  • Don't bargain shop. Be prepared to pay for additional procedures (like a mini-BBL) to get the results you want, even if it means postponing surgery until you have the extra funds. (Read more about plastic surgery financing here). Having surgery done right the first time and getting the results you want is much cheaper than needing a revision or not being happy with your results.
  • Take your time researching. While it's tempting to rush into a procedure to get it over with, you'll be more likely to get the results you want by taking the time to understand the procedure and the inherent risks.
