Hello!I am male, age 42, 5'10 190 lb who is post op day 3 after neck lift/lipo and full upper torso lipo. I saved some $ and had the procedure done in Mexico, however I can't seem to get much in the way of followup care advice. Which is pretty much me getting what I paid for and the reason I am posting this today. Hoping someone reading this will be able to help me. My confusion is in regards to compression garments, foam sheets, and is the purpose of the adjustable tightness to help with the swelling or some other purpose.. I'm hoping for some knowledge that isn't just unfounded opinions masquerading as truth simply because of their popularity and prevalence online. Neck area: I have a neck compression device, but I'm not entirely certain of all the reasons why I am wearing it, and why it is recommended to continue wearing it for many more months (even if just while I am asleep). I understand the compression should help to reduce the initial swelling which lasts about 2 weeks. Is the entire point of continuing to wear this compression garment after the first two weeks just to help alleviate the last incremental remnants of swelling that may continue for up to 3 additional months? Is there some additional risk such as sagging skin or other cosmetic benefits that I should know about? I tried doing the usual online research on the subject matter and I'm having a hard time separating myth from reality. Some people seemed to believe that compliance to long term use of the neck compression garment would impact the effectiveness and look of the finished product, but many of the online Q&A from surgeons were either split on the issue and even those opinions were a little vague and noncommittal. Torso (chest, abdomen, flanks, back): Same basic question as above. Are the compression garments about reduction of swelling or do they actually have a cosmetic impact on the effectiveness of the surgery long term or is it one of those things where I have to wear them the rest of my life to notice the benefit. Additionally, I was sold a compression zipper vest and some foam padding to insert between the vest and my skin. How important is the foam padding? Is it primarily there to help add more compression (volume) to the vest, or to prevent permanent wrinkles in a some special way that couldn't be achieved with wearing compression garments? I was given two pieces of the foam with the compression jacket, and compression neck gear when I left the surgeons office, but if I had lipo in multiple locations all over my torso (e.g., front, back, sides, upper and lower) shouldn't I be using a greater quanitity of this foam in order to cover all of various lipo areas? How important could it possibly be if I just have enough to cover my abdomen and my chest?Oh and I ordered a body shaper girdle with zipper for men that starts above the knees and ends at the chest because the current compression vest I have doesn't provide any real compression to the lowest section of my abdomen or my lower back. Am I correct in thinking that if compression is important (for some other reason that just reducing swelling), that maybe I should be wearing a compression device that compresses all of the areas I had work done on or is the abdomen jacket more than enough? Oh and why is the recommendation to wear these compression garments often 6 months or greater?
