Hi,I had an injury which left a hypertrophic scar under my nose. I had there some stitches as well. Initially it healed fine. After the scab went away it was quite flat, but then it started to fill with some fluid which was leaking a bit. After complete healing, when there was no leaking of fluid, no scab, it was raised over the surrounding surface. The scar is quite wide (4-5mm) as there was some abrasion/possible loss of tissue during the injury there and also the place where scar is located is stressed by moving of the lips when eating, etc... I am applying silicone gel (strataderm) there since the scab went away and the leaking stopped. Currently it is 66 days since the start of silicone gel application (twice a day). The scar improved it's overal look - it is less red, in certain light the color looks very similar to the surrounding area, but in some very bright light, it is still reddish. Also the scar's whole area was initially raised, now the edges of the scar are flattened, but still there is a "hill" covering ~70% of the scar's area. I am also massaging the scar for 10 minutes twice a day before the silicone gel application. After the massage the scar is significantly flatter but it will later return back to the original state. When exposing to the sun, I use SPF50 sunscreen over silicone gel.Could I expect the scar might flatten more in some time? I read the scar usually matures at least 6 months, but I would like to know if it is common to improve during this maturation time (flatten, soften, less red) or if it will stay like it is now or even get worse. Should I continue massaging the scar or can I harm it by that? Thanks!
