Here are 5 things that you need to know about Vaginoplasty recovery:

1. Rest and Relaxation is important. Plump your pillows and get out your favorite blanket...you need to rest for a day or two after your surgery. Oh, and be sure to ice the area to keep swelling to a minimum.

2. No boom boom in the bedroom for 4-6 weeks. I know that this may seem like waiting to open your presents at Christmas, but sex will have to wait until you are all healed. Some women wait even longer, RealSelfer lolly12345 waited 8 weeks—she was cleared by her doctor after 6 weeks but she was so nervous. She tells us in her review that the wait was worth it and that "even the first time having sex after surgery, was terrific."

3. Wait a couple of weeks before hitting the gym for your work out. Guidelines can vary from surgeon to surgeon, so it's best to discuss with your doctor. According to Doctor Jed H. Horowitz "most activity can resume after two or three weeks". If you want to hit the gym hard, Doctor Frank Lista recommends waiting "at least 4 weeks without intense physical activity after surgery" The key is to listen to your body and take it slow,  as everyone recovery is different.

4. You may experience constipation. It's not uncommon for women to become constipated after a vaginoplasty—it may be caused by post op narcotic use and lack of movement. For some relief you can decrease narcotics use and take stool softeners. Dr. Paul Vitenas, Jr. suggests "drinking plenty of fluids and taking psyllium seed will help." [Read more]

5. Discharge is usually normal. Don't be alarmed if you notice a light colored discharge post op. If you do however notice foul smelling greenish discharge and the area is angry looking, then you will want to see your doctor.

All in all vaginoplasty recovery is short,  Doctor Martin Jugenburg tells his patients "that they will feel fine the next day but expect to walk like a cowboy for a week or so."
